Tampa Bay · suppression is a different trade
What people mean by an Ansul system
Ansul is a brand of restaurant fire suppression. In kitchens the word is often used for the wet-chemical system over the cook line — tanks, nozzles, fusible links, and the pull station. It is a fire-suppression appliance. It is not the hood cleaning this site collects requests for.
Suppression versus exhaust cleaning
The Ansul-style system dumps agent onto a fire on the line and should interlock with the exhaust and fuel. Hood cleaning takes grease off the canopy, filters, accessible duct, and fan so grease is less likely to ignite in the exhaust path.
Related fire-safety topics. Different trucks. If you need suppression inspection, recharge, or a trip after a discharge, you need a fire-protection firm. If you need the hood cleaned on an NFPA 96 schedule, stay here.
Why the two get searched together
Inspectors and insurers look at both. A dirty hood next to a suppression system is a known bad pairing. A catch-up clean after a finding is a real exhaust request. It does not recharge the tanks.
Write if a discharge just happened. The hood may still need cleaning. The suppression work is still someone else’s ticket.
What we will not invent
No inspection interval dressed up as a quoted rule, no UL listing number we do not hold, and no claim that a hood cleaner will “certify the Ansul.” Brand names on the tank do not make this site a factory service depot.
If you already have a fire-protection vendor, call them for the system. Use this form for exhaust cleaning.
When a hood request still makes sense
You are due for a clean, behind on a volume-based interval, or looking at a grease finding. Say whether suppression techs are also scheduled so the two visits do not collide on the line.
A licensed local hood cleaner may contact you if they accept the lead. They should not be your only call if the tanks or nozzles are the actual problem.

Questions
Can a hood cleaner service the Ansul system?
Usually no, and this site does not ask them to. Suppression inspection and recharge are a fire-protection trade. Exhaust cleaning is a different visit.
Why do people call every kitchen system Ansul?
The brand is common, so the name stuck. Your tank may be another listed wet-chemical system. The split is still the same: suppression versus exhaust cleaning.
We had a discharge. Do we request hood cleaning?
You may need both — suppression restored by a fire-protection firm, and the line and hood cleaned. Write that a discharge happened. Do not treat this form as the suppression call.
Does NFPA 96 include the suppression system?
Kitchen fire protection and exhaust cleaning show up in the same fire-safety conversation. This site only collects exhaust-cleaning requests. Ask your fire-protection vendor about the tanks and nozzles.
