What a hood filter is
A hood filter is the baffle or mesh panel that sits in the canopy over the cook line. It catches some grease before air enters the plenum and duct. Line cooks can pull filters. They cannot clean the fan on the roof. Inspectors and insurers care about the system, not only a shiny filter edge.
What the filter is for — and what it is not
Filters are the first grease surface. A filter swap versus a full hood clean is the usual mix-up. A box of clean filters is not a plenum, duct, and fan job.
If you already have a cleaner on a route and you just ran out of clean filters before the next stop, say that. It is not the same lead as “inspector comes Friday.”
When “we just need filters” is honest
A kitchen that is already on a real exhaust route can need a filter change between stops. A kitchen that has never had the duct or exhaust fan done should not call a filter swap a clean.
Write which you mean. Photographs of the canopy help. Photographs of the roof fan help more. Do not send a walkthrough of the dining room.
Coastal and high-volume kitchens
Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota beach kitchens swing with season. Filters load faster when the fryers run. That still does not make a filter-only visit a substitute for the fan and accessible duct.
Salt air also corrodes rooftop fans. Mention a shaking fan or a stained roof. That is a system problem, not a filter SKU.

Can we just swap filters and skip the hood clean?
You can request filters only if that is truly the job. It is not a full clean. If an inspector is coming, say so — they usually care about more than the filter edge.
Are baffle filters and mesh filters the same request?
Write which you have if you know. The larger question is still scope: filters only, or canopy, duct, and fan.
Do you sell filters from this website?

Who empties the grease cups?
Kitchen staff often do that between cleans. It is not a substitute for opening the plenum, duct, and fan. Mention if cups are overflowing — it is context, not a diagnosis.
